Manual doors and doorways and manual gates intended for user passage shall comply with 404.2. Changes in level of ¼ inch (6.4 mm) high maximum shall be permitted to be vertical. Now armed with a comprehensive understanding of how underlines function in user interfaces and how people read, I was able to start designing solutions. Accessibility on its own, though, will leave out large sections of the population who don’t have a defined, legally recognized disability but may have issues interacting with interfaces based on particular circumstances in their environment. Inclusive design actively seeks out those diverse situations, which include disabilities, and aims to address them.

We encourage you to explore this website, or look through the WAI Resources list. However, no tool alone can determine if a site meets accessibility guidelines. Knowledgeable human evaluation is required to determine if a site is accessible.

The clearance between the car platform and the edge of any landing sill shall be 1 1/2 inch (38 mm) maximum. In destination-oriented elevators, a display shall be provided in the car with visible indicators to show car destinations. Audible and visible car position indicators shall be provided in elevator cars.

Amplifiers on pay phones are located in the base or the handset or are built into the telephone. If the microphone in the handset is not being used, a mute button that temporarily turns off the microphone can also reduce the amount of background noise which the person hears in the earpiece. If a volume adjustment is provided that allows the user to set the level anywhere from the base volume to the upper requirement of 20 dB, there is no need to specify a lower limit.
